TELUS Cup April 29/07 Mintos 3 Red Deer 2  2OT

For the first time in Midget AAA history a team has won back to back championships. The Mintos did it today with a 3-2 double overtime win over the Red Deer Optimist Chiefs. Curtis Kulchar and Tyler Fiddler scored first period goals and Ryan Fox took a beautiful pass from Torey Stott in OT to seal the win for the Mintos. Not only were the Mintos the first team to win back to back National Championships, they are now undefeated in 14 straight TELUS Cup Games. Ryan Fox, with the game winning goal, was named the Game Star.


TELUS Cup April 28/07  Mintos 4 Blizzard 2

For the second year in a row, the Mintos are going back to the TELUS Cup Finals. Jadon Potter scored 2 goals to lead the Mintos attack. Travis Statchuk scored in the second period and Tyler Fiddler scored into an empty net to insure the win. Jadon Potter was named the game star for the second game in a row. Mintos now play Red Deer for the gold medal.


TELUS Cup Awards

The TELUS Cup Individual Awards were handed out tonight. The Mintos took three of the Major Awards. Carsen Chubak was named the tournament's Top Goaltender, Tyler Fiddler was named the Top Forward and Lewis Laczko was named the Top Defenceman. Each recipient received a trophy, watch and a gift bag from Itech.


TELUS Cup April 27/07  Mintos 4 - SOO North Stars 1

Travis Statchuk had 2 power play goals and Shay Neufeld and Ryan Fox added their own power play goals as the Mintos defeated the Soo North Stars 4-1. Jordan Washburn stopped 24 shots to get the win. With the win, the Mintos remain perfect in TELUS Cup play. Game Star was Jadon Potter.


TELUS Cup April 26/07  Mintos 2 - Red Deer 0

The Mintos kept their TELUS Cup unbeaten streak alive with a 2-0 win over the previously unbeaten Red Deer Optimist Chiefs. Tyler Fiddler scored a power play goal and added an assist on Mitchell Peeke's blast from the point to pace the Mintos to the victory over the Chiefs. With the win the Mintos snapped the Chiefs 27 game unbeaten streak on home ice. Carsen Chubak, who stopped 26 shots for the shutout, was named the game star for the Mintos.


TELUS Cup April 25/07 Mintos 3 - Maple Leafs 2

Travis Statchuk, Brennan Wrigley and Brandon Herrod scored for the Mintos as they defeated the St Johns' Maple Leafs 3-2 today in Red Deer. The Mintos took a 2-0 lead before the Maple leafs scored two to tie it up. Brandon Herrod scored the game winner halfway through the 3rd period for the win. P.A. outshot St. Johns' 32-25. Game Star was Tyler Fiddler.


TELUS Cup April 24/07  Mintos 3 - Blizzard 1

Game 2 for the Mintos was all Quebec for the first period and a half but Carsen Chubak was his usual stellar self stopping 30 of 31 shots to keep the Mintos in the game. Tommy Brown scored a first period power play goal to tie the game at 1-1. The Mintos were outshot 30-9 in the first two periods but outshot the Blizzard 17-4 in the 3rd period en route to a 3-1 win. Ryan Fox, scored a power play goal and Lewis Laczko scored even strength to lead the third period attack. Carsen Chubak was the Game Star.


TELUS Cup April 23/07  Mintos 2 - Giants 1

In game 1 of the TELUS Cup in Red Deer Alberta, Jadon Potter and Brant Henry-Norton scored first period goals to pace the Mintos to a 2-1 victory over the Vancouver AAA Giants. Jordan Washburn stopped 20 of 21 shots for the victory. His shutout bid was stopped with 1:33 left on the clock. Lewis Laczko was named player of the game for his stellar defensive play.
